The iPhone SE review: A Modern Phone With A Classic Shape

In terms of look, the iPhone SE is almost entirely similar to the iPhone 8, but it has got the power and brains of the iPhone 11. The overall design, camera, and body of the iPhone SE are pretty much the same as an iPhone 8. The processor, however, is the A13 Bionic, which is the same chipset used in the iPhone 11 lineup. Moreover, this phone comes with an upgraded camera and extended battery performance.

The best thing about this phone is its price. You can get it for $399, which is quite a low price for a phone that has internal specs those of flagship phones. There, undoubtedly, are some trade-offs, but this phone seems to provide more value for the dollars you spend.

The iPhone SE compared to iPhone 8, iPhone SE (2016), and iPhone 11

The iPhone SE’s design

From the perspective of looks, the iPhone SE is an iPhone 8. It has a glass cover on the front and back, and chassis and sides are made of aluminum. The only difference that you will notice is the Apple logo, which resides in the center of the backside of the iPhone SE.

The iPhone SE’s resemblance to the iPhone 8 also means that the modern phone comes with a classic screen with a thicker forehead and chin bezels. It is a rare practice by a smartphone company to revert to classics in an age of edge-to-edge phone screens that barely allow a notch to house the front camera. A thicker chin bezel means the homecoming of the traditional Home button.

The phone’s 4.7-inch LCD is not as smaller as other tiny phones, but it might look smaller because smartphone users have become more familiar with the edge-to-edge screens that tend to be bigger than the iPhone SE’s display.

This phone is durable enough thanks to its solid build and an IP67 rating. The iPhone SE comes with three color options: black, white, and red.

Extended battery life

Apple’s official website says that the iPhone SE’s comes with the same battery capacity as that of the iPhone 8, but reviews suggest that it can last much longer than that. According to a few individual test results, this phone’s battery lasts more than 15 hours and 30 seconds with consistent video playback at 50% brightness.

Processing performance

The iPhone SE benefits from the A13 Bionic chipset. It would be no surprise if you find this phone performing better than the iPhone 8. With the industry best processing running in its core, this phone launches apps quickly and promises smoother gameplay.

Camera

The camera hardware of the iPhone SE may be the same as that of the iPhone 8, but the A13 chipset and an updated iOS 13 transform this camera unit into something you are going to love. The smart HDR real-time processing improves the photo quality amazingly.
